Deal with the Stone Wall
If from Fear and Avoidance
- Respond with honesty & respect, no need to stonewall
If to gain control (passive/aggressive - by doing nothing)
- Ask open-ended questions (Who What Where When How)
- “What do you want me to do?” (Needs answer)
- Be attentive, but don’t fill the silence
- Reassure no blame, just problem solving
- Remove pressure
- Have them suggest solution (option to put into writing)
- Last resort - show consequences
